It was only in true Derek Zoolander fashion that the much anticipated Zoolander 2 premiere was held in New York’s prestigious Lincoln Centre, tagging itself onto the beginning of New York Fashion Week that officially starts on the 10th! The event was hosted by vogue and was obviously attended by really, really ridiculously good looking people spanning from the models who’ve graced the glossy pages of every fashion publication possible to the editor-in-chief of American Vogue, Anna Wintor. The fifteen year wait for the film didn’t deter any of the a-listers from arriving at the world premiere and trying their luck at the classic Blue Steel gaze.
The sequel to the 2001 hit film started off its promotion in Paris during the much publicised Valentino Fall 2015 show back in March, both Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson took to the runway in their much-loved characters to partake in the wildest walk-off the world has ever seen!
Similarly, the premiere was no different, beginning the night with the cast taking to the floor treating the press and fans to the ultimate walk-off with star-studded guests. Designers featured in the film such as Valentino, Alexander Wang, Tommy Hilfiger and Marc Jacobs provided the dress for the miniature show where practically every Victoria Secret model took to the floor, strutting their stuff to the house DJ of the night Skrillex.
Competing with the Zoolander cast was a line up of the ‘it’ girls in modelling right now, led by VS Angel newcomer Gigi Hadid and followed by the likes of Taylor Hill, Liu Wen, Stella Maxwell, Irina Shayk, Imaan Hamaam, Fei Fei Sun and Lineisy Montero.
Of course, Derek and Hansel tore up the floor in response with their cast mates, Will Ferrell returning as Mugatu and the stunning Penélope Cruz as Melanie Valentina, a swimsuit model who struggles to make it into the big time. Also making his way down the purple carpet, barely recognisable, is the screenwriter of the film Justin Theroux who was sporting crazy dreads as the Evil DJ.
Overall the night seemed to be a huge success, even though it’s unaware if the event was a film premiere or a crazy start to Fashion Week just to get us all in the spirit!
Zoolander 2 hits cinemas on Friday 12th February 2016.
