The Independent and Independent on Sunday newspapers will stop print editions in March.

On Saturday 26 March, The Independent will publish it’s final print copy. ESI Media, owners of The Independent¬†and Independent on Sunday newspapers, have announced today. They also announced that there would be “some redundancies among editorial employees”.

ESI Media¬†have also announced they would be creating 25 new “digital content roles” as they continue as a digital-only media outlet.

The i newspaper, currently owned by The Independent, is set to be sold to Johnston Press, who manage local newspapers across the UK.

This announcement is a huge blow to print media and will once again raise questions as to the future of the newspaper industry.
