Easy Homemade Exfoliating Scrub

People seem to forget about the importance of taking care of your skin, we can all hold our hands up for forgetting to take our makeup off at night or not moisturising as much as we should, it happens, life gets in the way.

Recently, I became aware of how important exfoliating your skin is. Keeping your skin hydrated seems simple; just drink water but there’s far more to it than that. Your skin is the biggest organ in your body, taking up a 20 square foot area. To make sure your skin gets fully hydrated you need to use hydrating skin products like overnight masks, but to get the best out of them you need to open up your pores and remove the dead skin. Most people actually have dry skin without knowing, the build up of the dead skin can give the illusion of lines and also increase your chance of getting wrinkles in the future, once again highlighting how important it is to exfoliate.

What You’ll Need

  • 270g Sugar (brown or white)
  • 6 Bags of green tea leaves
  • 100ml Olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • Vanilla extract
  • Lemon juice
  • Optional 1 tablespoon honey

This homemade scrub is so simple to make and takes less than five minutes. Firstly you can use either brown or white sugar around 270 grams. Sugar is great as an exfoliator, it works as the grit of the scrub removing the dead cells sat on the skin and the glycol acid opens up the pores and evens the skin tone out.

Next in the bowl is the green tea leaves, I’ve just torn open six green tea bags. Green tea is just an all round great product, it works at removing the antitoxins in the skin which helps prevent ageing. It’s also great for combating skin blemishes and irritation plus it also repairs scarred tissue!

Surprisingly the next ingredient is olive oil, this is what blends everything together. Just pour in 100ml of oil, if needed feel free to add a little more! Olive oil is full of vitamins, primarily vitamin E, once again it is an antioxidant that is a natural moisturiser that helps condition and heal skin while also having anti-aging benefits.

Just to top everything off, add a couple of drops of Vanilla extract and lemon juice to give the scrub a tasty smell and then stir it all in.

Once everything is well stirred in just add two tablespoons of water to the mix and you’re done!

Exfoliating works differently for everybody so try using it every other day to start and then make your own choice. To use the scrub just rub it in to your skin for a couple of minutes fairly vigorously and then wash it off in warm water. Personally I find it is best to use in the shower!

Another major ingredient you could use in the scrub is honey, honey helps lock in water to the skin which is amazing to keep your skin super hydrated!

I would recommend remaking the scrub every three weeks to keep it fresh and effective.
