With the US presidential elections looming, the past couple of weeks have seen an influx in the media’s interest of the personal lives of the two potential candidates; Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump. Particular interest has been given to the sexual allegations that have been made against the latter, provoking a great deal of concern and controversy within the country.
Thus far, 12 women have come forward to raise an accusation against him concerning various forms of sexual assault, that have occurred between 1980 and 2015, including one claim of rape. Despite Trump denying all of the allegations, none of them have so far been proven false.
Amongst the several women that have come forward, Karen Virgina states that he approached her with a group of men behind her, made lewd comments about her and touched her breast at the 1998 US Opens tennis event. Kristen Anderson, a former model, said she was in a nightclub when she felt him place his hand up her skirt.
Although no conclusion has been made as to the truth of these claims, Trump has certainly not helped his cause proving his respect for women. On the 8th May 2013, he tweeted; ’26,000 unreported sexual assaults in the military- only 238 convictions. What did these geniuses expect when they put men and women together?’ Additionally, in an interview with Esquire magazine in 1991 he says ‘You know it doesn’t really matter what the media write as long as you’ve got a young and beautiful piece of ass,’ which although an incredibly controversial statement perhaps he would find it quite a fitting piece of advice for his current self.
