Pumpkins, bonfires, candles, and blankets; Autumn is here!
Time to make your home an autumnal dream – these easy-to-do ideas will fill you with inspiration for your own cosy, seasonal dÈcor.
Lets start with the obvious – pumpkins! You can get really creative with this. Decide whether you want to create a scary Halloween pumpkin or something a bit more decorative and minimalistic. Try punching a sequence of holes in your pumpkin to make gorgeous patterns that light up when you place a candle inside. Equally you could simply paint your pumpkin!
Blankets and Cushions
Dig out checkered blankets and cosy knitted cushions to leave around your lounge. Warm and muted tones are ideal for autumn so add pops of mustard or orange alongside greys, browns and creams to create that cosy autumnal feel in your home.
Make Something Delicious
Bake an autumn treat such as apple or pumpkin pie. Not only will this taste delicious but it should leave your home smelling amazing too! You could also go all out and make a vegetable soup or a roast dinner complete with autumnal vegetables such as parsnips and butternut squash.
Hang an Autumn-Themed Picture
Decorate your lounge or bedroom with a picture that screams autumn and winter. This will put you in the seasonal mood the moment you walk through the door. Think woodland scenes, orange or red flowers, and landscapes featuring corn fields or fir trees.
Make Your Home Smell Like Autumn
Grab a few slices of orange, a handful of bay leaves, some cloves and a stick or two of cinnamon and pop into a pan of simmering water. Voil‡! Soon your house will be filled with a gorgeous autumn scent.
Hang Up Some Fairy Lights
Fairy lights are perfect for those long dark evenings we’re starting to get. String†up lights around the rooms you like to relax in or stuff into jars for that extra little touch to your autumn dÈcor.
There’s no better time for scented candles than autumn! Not only do they make your home look gorgeous when clustered together on windowsills and the coffee table, but you can find some amazing smells too. You could also decorate plain candles by wrapping in bark or sticks of cinnamon and tying with a cute ribbon. Yankee Candle have a whole autumn section of scented candles to browse through to your heart’s content.†Fireside Treats is a must.
When the weather gets colder there’s nothing better than curling up with a good book and a hot drink. If you’re a bookish person you can gather together some of your favourite autumn themed or red, orange and yellow books and stack them together in a corner of your shelves. Add pine cones and LED fairy lights to make a cute autumn-themed display.
Bring the Outside in
Collect maple leaves, pine cones, acorns and small logs you find lying around the park and use them to add some D.I.Y decor to your fireplace or windowsill.
Go out to the market and buy a big bunch of orange, red and yellow flowers or potted plants. It’ll make all the difference and brighten up your home instantly.
